Masjid Quba

The very first mosque in Islam.

Story

Masjid Quba is a really, really special mosque because it is the very FIRST mosque ever built in Islam β€” even older than Masjid an-Nabawi! It sits in a small green village just a few kilometers south of Madinah.

When the Prophet ο·Ί was making his famous Hijra (journey) from Makkah to Madinah, he stopped here for a few days to rest. The people of Quba were so happy to see him that he decided to start building a mosque right away. He laid the very first stone with his own blessed hands, and his companions joined in to carry stones and palm trunks.

The original mosque was tiny and simple β€” just stones, mud, and palm leaves. But every time the Prophet ο·Ί was in Madinah, he would walk or ride his camel to Masjid Quba every single Saturday to pray there. That shows how much he loved this little mosque.

The Prophet ο·Ί also told us something amazing: 'Whoever cleans himself at home, then goes to Masjid Quba and prays two rak'ahs, gets the reward of an Umrah!' Imagine β€” two short prayers giving the same reward as a whole Umrah! That is why Muslims who visit Madinah today always try to come here.

Today Masjid Quba has been rebuilt and expanded with beautiful white walls, four tall minarets, and big domes that sparkle in the sun. Inside it is cool, peaceful, and full of light. Many families come here in the morning, pray two quiet rak'ahs, and smile knowing they have just earned an enormous reward from Allah.
