Masjid Aisha

A miqat mosque outside Makkah.

Story

Masjid Aisha is a beautiful white mosque just outside Makkah in a place called Tan'eem. It is named after Sayyida Aisha (RA), the brilliant and beloved young wife of the Prophet ο·Ί β€” the same Aisha who taught thousands of people the rules of Islam after the Prophet ο·Ί passed away.

There is a special reason this mosque has her name. One year during Hajj, Aisha (RA) became sick and was sad because she could not complete her Umrah. The Prophet ο·Ί kindly told her brother to take her to Tan'eem so she could put on her Ihram clothes again and start a brand new Umrah. The very place she stopped is where this mosque was later built.

Because of that story, Masjid Aisha became one of the official 'Miqat' points for people who already live inside Makkah. A Miqat is the boundary line where pilgrims must put on Ihram before doing Umrah or Hajj. Without crossing a Miqat in Ihram, your Umrah does not count!

Today, the mosque is busy day and night. Buses bring families from their hotels in Makkah. Inside the mosque you will see people praying, changing into their white Ihram clothes, and reciting the famous words of the pilgrim: 'Labbayk Allahumma labbayk!' β€” 'Here I am, O Allah, here I am!'

Visiting Masjid Aisha is also a chance to remember the amazing life of Sayyida Aisha (RA) β€” a smart girl who loved books, asked lots of questions, and grew up to become one of the greatest teachers of Islam. Aisha shows every kid that asking questions is a beautiful thing!
